The opening of the newly refurbished Visitor Information and Amenities Centre (VIAC) at the Stick Shed “highlights and adds to the amazing visitor attractions which Murtoa has to offer,” according the Yarriambiack Shire mayor Kylie Zanker.

The offical opening took place as part of the first annual Stick Shed Day celebrations.

Almost 25,000 people visit the Stick Shed every year and the upgraded VIAC will continue the work of promoting the Stick Shed and other tourist attractions in our region.

Stick Shed Committee of Management chair Sally Taylor said “our upgraded VIAC has allowed us to improve the visitor experience of the Stick Shed.”

The Stick Shed VIAC features information about other tourist attractions throughout the recently expanded Grampians tourism region, that now includes the Wimmera Southern Mallee area.

The new facility cost nearly $450,000 to build and was funded and supported by the federal and state Governments, the Yarriambiack Shire Council as well as the Stick Shed Committee of Management.

Cr Zanker said, “this project is a positive partnership that shows what can happen when collaborative partnerships unfold.”

Ms Taylor added “the refurbishment of this visitor centre would not have occurred without the support of Tammy Smith, the shire CEO, who was instrumental in obtaining the money.”

She also thanked Yarriambiack Shire Sport and Recreation coordinator Rebecca Botheras for her “excellent management of the project which has been challenging at times.”

A new visual display inside the Stick Shed featuring never before seen images was also unveiled to celebrate the first Stick Shed Day.
