Christmas lunch offers full course of companionship
While Christmas is a joyful time for many, filled with family gatherings and celebrations, it can also be a lonely day for those whose loved ones live far away or whose friends are busy. For almost two decades, Horsham’s Uniting Church community has opened its doors to ensure no one has to spend the day in isolation.
Organiser Mandy Kirsopp said year after year, it is heartwarming to see strangers become friends on December 25.
“It’s about the community coming together for companionship and fellowship,” she said.
“We want to make sure people aren’t alone; it could be doctors, nurses, maybe a professional who is working on rotation or placement in the area.
“It could be couples, whose kids are out of town or interstate, and they’re just looking for company.”
The annual community Christmas lunch offers a traditional meal and a chance to share the day with others in a safe, friendly, and supportive environment.
Last year, around 170 people came together to enjoy lunch and companionship — a reminder of how meaningful the gathering has become for many in the community.
Guests are invited to arrive from 11.30am, with lunch served at noon.
A donation of $5 per person is appreciated to help cover costs, and transport assistance is available within Horsham for those who need help getting to the venue.
To assist with catering, attendees are asked to register their interest by contacting the Uniting Church office on 5382 4380.
For anyone facing Christmas Day alone, the lunch offers not just a meal, but connection, and a reminder that community spirit thrives in Horsham.
