Dimboola Lions Achievements for 2025

THE Dimboola Lions had a very busy year in 2025!

An active 2025 for Dimboola Lions Club has sadly been somewhat blemished by two break-ins at the Lochiel Driver Reviver building. Security will be increased and the building will still have friendly volunteers on site during upcoming holiday dates for motorists to have a welcome coffee break on long drives.

Despite being a small group, they have been very active in helping the local community and are always happy to welcome new volunteers to any of their enterprises.

Some of the achievements this year are:

1. Continuing to provide volunteers for the Driver Reviver site at Lochiel. Dimboola Lions have been running for through all the Victorian and South Australian school holidays including summer holidays, Easter and Anzac weekend in April, Kings Birthday, July and September school holidays. The load has been shared with the Nhill Lions to ensure continued provision of a valuable driver safety service.

2. Good Friday Appeal in conjunction with the Dimboola Community Bank – lots of raffles and culminating in a big family morning on Good Friday and raising a record amount of money for a great cause.

3. Running the Container Deposit Machine – dedicated volunteers give of their time to keep this open as much as possible – raising funds to help other projects. The milestone of the millionth container was achieved in the middle of the year.

4. Cardboard and Bulka bag recycling at the Lions Depot – again many volunteer hours are put in here, ensuring valuable funds will be raised for projects in town.

5. BBQ and cool room hire – a very useful resource for community events and activities – the Lions often provide volunteer BBQ cooks too. The Lions also provided several BBQs at the Tower Park market this year.

6. Dimboola Dollars – the bushfire recovery and pre Christmas program was designed to help local traders and the community leverage our local currency to spend more locally. It was also a finalist in the Victorian Tidy Towns and sustainable Communities Awards.

7. Providing Container Deposit bins for the Steampunk Festival – making some extra income instead of going to landfill. The club now have their own trailer and bins thanks to a Murra Wurra Wind Farm Grant.

8. Updating and renovating the Lochiel Driver Reviver building – look out for the bright yellow on the highway now.

Break-in

On a disappointing note, the Lochiel Driver Reviver building has been broken into twice in the last month.

The first time the would-be intruders didn't get in but did damage the big roller door on the serving counter, which was able to be repaired.

However, the second time they brought an angle grinder, cutting the padlocks off the entry door and managed to get into the building – it is believed the crime was committed between the evening of Thursday, December 4 and the morning of Sunday, December 7.

With no cash or valuables kept there, the only things missing was a bucket and broom, but nevertheless the inconvenience has cost the Lions Club time in sorting out both situations.

Cameras were now being installed around the site as a security measure.
