Fun off the bat for Horsham Table Tennis Association
Horsham Table Tennis Association’s winter competition may have finished, but members are already pumped about their upcoming spring competition following recent presentations to A and B grade winners and club champions.

The club is holding a free come-and-try Night on Tuesday October 7 from 7.30pm.
New, current and returning players can put their name down for the seven-week spring competition which runs from October 14 to November 25.
Based in Harriet Street just below the overpass, the club has found the ideal location to call home.
Originally the former Horsham Butter factory, the Horsham Table Tennis Club purchased the building from the Italian Social Club in 2018.
The building is a far cry from years of competition at the Maydale Pavilion.
A wood fire is now stocked up on days of winter competition, creating a great place to congregate before and after games, and air-conditioners blare during the warmer months.
Club president Leon Forrest said members of the Keenagers group were paramount in the success of the club.
“They offer invaluable assistance maintaining the clubrooms, inside and out, and organising the wood and the fire," Forrest said.
"They are a small group but they’re passionate and they know the value of keeping active.”
Some were well into their 80s and dominating in the domestic comp, Forrest said.
The club offers diverse and engaging programs and competitions for seniors, access-all-abilities and veterans via the U3A program.
"If we can get more juniors interested we’d like to reinstate the juniors’ competition," Forrest said.
"Members play for the social interaction, to develop skills and to aid physical and mental alertness and wellbeing.
"Our aim is to build numbers by encouraging new members to see the values of participating and offering different programs throughout the year rather than just a winter competition.
"The facility is used for table tennis every weekday, either for competition, social hits or practice, and we also hire the hall out as a community event centre."
Forrest said one of the things he was most impressed with was to see the improvement of players.
“We regularly have people join who haven’t played competition table tennis since they were kids or those who've had social hits with their friends.
"This year, the B grade competition and closed tournament was dominated by Lachy King, who hadn’t played since he was a kid about 15 years ago.
“His tennis background and good eye-hand coordination certainly helped kick in his skills very quickly, and he is a great asset to the club given his friendliness and cheeky personality.”
The club always welcomes new members, regardless of age or ability.
players.
Forrest said players were often away for myriad reasons, so having a list of subs to call on guaranteed teams could play matches without forfeiting any games.
Bats are also available for anyone in need.
People interested in participating, either socially or in a team, can visit the club’s Facebook page for more information or call Leon Forrest on 0419 419 919.
