Horsham College advances to state titles
Horsham College’s senior hockey team will travel to Melbourne to compete in the school state finals after taking out the Greater Western Region Hockey competition.

On Thursday July 24 the side travelled to Hamilton to compete in the regional finals, where they faced off against Mount Clear College in the championship game.
In an enthralling encounter on a sunny day, Mount Clear managed to score first in the first half, leading Horsham College 1-0 at half-time.
Strong defence from both sides meant most of the second half was scoreless before Horsham scored with just three minutes remaining.
As the game finished with a 1-1 draw, the teams played out a five-shot penalty shootout, which also ended in a draw.
Going into sudden death, goalie Kai made a critical save to win the game for Horsham.
Horsham College sport co-ordinator Jason Levell says it was a wonderful achievement from the team considering they hadn’t had a hockey side represent the school in six years.
“From a school point of view it was terrific to be able to offer hockey, and it was really driven by some Year 12 boys, including Buzz Brennan who has represented South Australia in hockey,” Levell said.
“Within the team, we had a Year 7 student and four or five of the team don’t play hockey regularly.
“It was a really good day and an exciting result.“
The win means Horsham College progresses to the state titles, which will be played on Friday August 22 in Melbourne.
“The team is excited to head to Melbourne and they’re all looking forward to the challenge of better opposition,” Levell said.
