Laharum end Kalkee win streak
Laharum’s men’s senior football side registered a resounding win over Kalkee on Saturday in round 13 of the Horsham District Football Netball League.
The final score saw Laharum kick 18.9 117 to Kalkee’s 5.5 35.
Playing at Kalkee, the visitors wasted no time in getting on the front foot, delivering clean entries into the forward 50 for their opening two goals, kicked by Phil Butsch and Monty Wynnes in the opening three minutes.
Laharum continued to control the quarter, winning the majority of the contests and executing on their various opportunities, ultimately taking a 52-1 lead at the first break.
Kalkee delivered a more competitive second-quarter effort, but Laharum’s defence prevented any goals as the Dees went up 77-4 at halftime.
Some slick ball movement saw Kalkee kick two early goals in the third before Laharum nullified any chance of a comeback, finishing the term with three goals to go up 99-16.
The final quarter was similar to the third, with Kalkee coming out determined before Laharum kicked two late in the quarter to finish 82-point winners.
Astrin Morrison led all scorers with five goals for the Demons, capitalising on the strong entries that consistently came from the Laharum midfield.
Shannon Argall dominated in the ruck for the victors, with Monty Wynne and Daniel Easson both playing a role in a number of key passages for Laharum.
Isaiah Adams was one of Kalkee’s best in a losing effort, providing an impact all over the park throughout the game, while youngster Jagger Doolan kicked a goal on his senior debut for the Kees.
Argall, co-coach of Laharum, was pleased with the victory despite the side’s large amount of unavailability.
“It was good to get the win,” Argall said.
“We have a lot of players out at the moment, so to get this one was important.”
Argall identified Monty Wynne and Todd Heynen as standouts in a full-team effort.
“Monty Wynne, one of our young fellas, he was just prolific,” Argall said.
“He stepped up, and he was all over the place today.”
“Todd Heynen, it would be hard to know, but I reckon he had 45 to 50 touches today.”
