Nhill water supply expected to be bolstered before summer
Nhill residents were asked to conserve water following damage to a GWM Water storage tank and pipe infrastructure in March this year.
The tank failed and almost 2 megalitres of water flooded the streets in the small town.
The tank was installed to provide greater resilience to the town when the town was upgraded to a drinking water supply in 2012.
Following the incident, a spokesperson for GWM Water said water would be carted to the town to maintain a supply for its residents until a replacement tank could be arranged.
A spokesperson for GWM Water told the Mail Times in May, GWM Water was able to continue supplying drinking water to Nhill without interruption to customers during, and since the incident.
The water tank has not been replaced to date, but options for replacement are currently being assessed by the GWM Water Engineering team.
GWM water spokesperson said a decision is expected to be made by the end of June 2025, with construction to be completed before the summer 25/26 season.
"We will provide an update to the community once the replacement solution is finalised and construction contracts are awarded," the spokesperson said.
"There is sufficient water storage at Nhill in the current underground tank to continue to supply the town.
"The additional tank is required to increase buffer storage during peak summer usage periods."
