Pam through in singles knockout

Wednesday June 18 saw numbers depleted as two of Rainbow's golfing divas, Debbie and Helen, trekked over to Kaniva to play in its tournament.

They had a great day but did not come home with any prizes.

Meanwhile, on the green Rainbow fairways the group welcomed Fiona for her first hit for the year.

Fiona and Lynne headed out and enjoyed the mild winter weather.

They were followed by Joy and Pam playing off in the singles knockout.

Other rounds of the singles have seen Debbie defeat Pam Newton on the 16th and Helen defeat Lynne also on the 16th, I think.

Play last week had to be different to that, with both Pam and Joy playing some great and some less-than-average golf.

Pam managed to be up on the turn but Joy fought back and was up by one with four holes left to play.

After a backwards between-the-legs-away-from-a-tree shot by one of these battlers, Pam went on to win on the 17th hole.

This means that now Pam and Helen have to play off and the winner of that game will take on Debbie in the grand final.

Phew!

A small but quality field, and in match play you never know what is going to happen.

Back to Wednesdays play.

Fiona came in with 32 stableford points and NTP on both the 5th and the 10th.

Pam was second with 28, Joy made 24 points and Lynne 19.

It was a chance to get some poor shots out of our systems before our next championship round and our tournament.

The first week of July will see the ladies playing a stroke round for a golden putter trophy on Tuesday July 1, three-person gentsomes on Thursday July 3 and a four-person ambrose with a delicious two-course lunch on Saturday July 5, so both on and off the field we will be busy.

Lots of work around the course has already been done and the green grass looks inviting.

As well as all the activity outdoors, the golf club kitchen will be humming for the week.

Good luck to all Rainbow players – let’s retain some of the prizes locally.

Thank you to all our sponsors and volunteers.

We couldn’t run the golf club without you.
