Strong fields, fine weather forecast for Horsham Cup
Punters are expected to flock to the Horsham Cup on Sunday, October 19, for another jam-packed local meet.

The eight-race card, featuring the 2100-metre Manhari Horsham Cup, will give racegoers plenty to enjoy throughout the day.
Club manager Charmayne Parry said the anticipation was high for the club’s first race meet since earning the Racing.com Country Racing Victoria Community Club of the Year award.
“The Community Club Award was surreal,” she said.
“We were just so excited to get that. It’s a pat on the back to everyone - the committee, the community, our members who rally by us - it's everyone.”
With increased prize money and a chance to run in Melbourne on ‘Ladies Day’, Parry said the nominations were phenomenal.
“We should be in for a strong day of racing,” she said.
“We've got the heat five of the Melbourne Cup Series. That's a $100,000 race.
“That'll be a big full field with the winner going into the Oaks Day.”
She noted the track was looking in top condition.
“We're in great hands with Jimmy,” Parry said.
“We had a track inspection the other day; there are no issues.
“This sunshine greened it up.”
Sitting at a Soft 5 midweek, with Thursday’s warmer weather, the track is expected to firm up to a Good 4.
“Even if it starts a little bit soft on the day, it tends to end up right where he needs it for the cup,” Parry said.
“Jimmy is good at judging that.”
The club manager added that there was no shortage of entertainment throughout the day away from the track.
“It’s pretty exciting; patronage was up last year, but I would dare say the weather and everything's going to be even better this year,” she said.
“The introduction of the giddy up marquee last year was a real hit.
“It's just a good quality option: it's got great food, it's all inclusive drinks, you're out of the sun, out of the wind… you've got a beautiful little garden there.
“We're finding a lot of people are gravitating towards that option.”
