Blue Ribbon brings the heat
Horsham’s Blue Ribbon Raceway fired into life last weekend (Saturday the 2nd of March) for what was a stellar event with a wide array of Speedway action spread over 5 fantastic classes.
The ultra-fast and always exciting Super Rods thrilled with a field of 11 competitors, the V8 powered methanol munching machines ran clockwise and as always, the opened wheeled racing produced high levels of adrenalin.
Despite a spectacular roll over earlier in the night Jamie May prevailed having won the Top 6 Dash before backing that up with a well deserved flag to flag feature race win int 20 lap final.
The opening 15-laps went express before the cautions were trigged after George
Woolstencroft crashed and retired to the infield. Michael Coad chased May of the journey to claim the runner up position over reigning Victorian Champion Allan Pitcher who had advanced from fifth to third. Paul Verhoeven, Daniel Grist, Shaun Walsh and Tanner Barclay were next while Luke Cole was the final finisher one lap in the rears.
The VSC Unlimited Sedans with varying horsepower and handling characteristics provided plenty of interest with a mixture of 13 Super Sedans, Late Models, AMCA Nationals all fighting hard for victory in round 5 of the Farley’s Pool Lucky 7’s Series.
The battle between Trent Susol (Late Model) and Danny Smith (Super Sedan) went right down to the wire in the 20-lap final. Peter Farley was next with Tim Williams, Nathan Lightburn and Jimmy Harris all on the lead lap. Corey McDonald was one lap in the rears as were Gavin Ough, Anthony McKean, Peter Camilleri, Jaryd Carman and Brendon Eames while Wayne Eames was a further lap down.
For the first time this season the Limited Sportsman hit the track. Despite numbers being down the 6 competitors pushed hard as they run wheel to wheel in the 15-lap final to the chequered flag. Craig Ansell claimed two of the three qualifying races in addition to the final, Tom baker pushed hard over the distance for second and Darren Adams for the podium. Chris Woeltjes and David Knight rounding off the finishers.
Peter Dowling proved the best of the Production Sedans taking his FG Falcon to Victory Lane with the father and son duo of Shane and Colby Hammond right behind in the 15-lap final. Dean Hughes, Shaun Queale and Belinda Taylor were next.
The always entertaining V8 Trucks raced in the annual Robin Thomas Memorial. Luke James showed the rest of the field the quickest way to the finish line. Nathan Bird, Fletcher Mills and Belinda Taylor squared off the finishers.
